Kedarnath Temple is known to be one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in India dedicated to Lord Shiva. Among the twelve Jyotirlingas in India, it is the most important one. To reach the temple you have to undertake a challenging trek from Gaurikund. The temple only remains open for six months.
Located at a distance of around five hundred meters from the Kedarnath Temple, Bhairavnath Temple is dedicated to the Lord Bhairav. It is located on top of a hillock and provides breathtaking views of the Kedarnath valley below and surrounding Himalayas. It is believed that Lord Bhairav is Lord Shiva's main Gana, enhancing the importance of the temple.
Sonprayag holds immense prominence as it is considered to be the place where two mighty rivers Mandakini and Basuki meet. Situated amidst the breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, this peaceful hamlet serves as an important point for those who embark on the Kedarnath Yatra. Sonprayag also serves as an important gateway to the shrine.
The Samadhi is known to be Adi Shankaracharya's final resting place. The site holds immense significance, resonating with Advaita Vedanta's philosophy. Pilgrims flock to this place in huge numbers to pay tribute to Adi Shankaracharya whose contributions played an important role in shaping the spiritual landscape of Hinduism.
Guptakashi is located at a distance of around 47 km from Kedarnath. It is situated at an elevation of around 1,319 metres above sea level and is surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Chaukhamba mountains. It houses two sacred temples, namely Ardhanarishwar Temple and Vishwanath Temple that are dedicated to Lord Shiva. It also serves as a popular stopover for those embarking on Kedarnath Yatra.
Gaurikund is considered to be the last roadhead before the start of the Kedarnath trek. It is situated on the banks of the Mandakini River and is believed to be the gateway to salvation and spirituality. The important landmarks of Gaurikund include Gauri Lake and Gaurikund Temple.
Triyuginarayan is situated in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag District. It is located at an altitude of around 1,980 metres above sea level. The prime attraction here is the Triyuginarayan Temple, which is one of the most revered Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Parvati and Shiva got married at this place, and Lord Vishnu witnessed this holy union.
Rudra Meditation Cave is situated at a distance is of around one kilometre from Kedarnath Temple. It is an underground stone meditation cave that was maintained by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. It became famous after Narendra Modi, India's prime minister meditated here before the elections were held in 2019. The authorities can accommodate a single person at a time.
