Travel Tips for Pilgrims

Check out the below-listed must-follow travel tips:

  • 1. Advance trip planning - One has to cover the physically challenging trekking trails to reach the holy sites of Yamunotri and Kedarnath. Therefore, it is highly advised for travellers to plan this trip in advance. You should book accommodations, transportation, and pony or helicopter services (if needed) to avoid last-minute hassles.
  • 2. Online Yatra registration - It is highly advised to complete the registration process by visiting the official website of the Uttarakhand government. We never recommend that travellers go for offline registration as it consumes time and energy.
  • 3. Best time to visit - All these holy abodes are nestled at huge elevations, therefore, the regions witness extreme climatic conditions. Hence, we recommend not planning this spiritual journey in the monsoon and winter months.
  • 4. Go for a Health Checkup - All the devotees must get a thorough medical checkup done before leaving for the journey. Also, if you have asthma, altitude sickness, or any other prolonged illness, then do not forget to carry your prescribed medicines.
  • 5. Pack Smartly - As stated above, the regions receive extreme and unpredictable climatic conditions, therefore, it is better to pack woollen, cotton clothes, and rain gear. Additionally, do carry a power bank and torch, as power outages are quite common there.
  • 6. Travel Safety - Hire a local tour guide and experienced drivers, as the road conditions in Uttarakhand are not very good. You may also get fog in the evening, which makes driving difficult and risky, so avoid traveling at night.
  • 7. Respect Local Culture and Customs - Uttarakhand is renowned as "Devbhoomi" or "land of gods", therefore, travellers are requested to maintain the sanctity of the state. Pilgrims must dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the temple.
